Project TL:DR
Program created to train Web3 developers across Africa

Proposal Category
Educational

Project Overview
Web3bridge was created in 2019 and is devoted to training web2 and web3 developers in Africa. With seven successful cohorts, Web3bridge has trained well over a thousand developers with over 100 smart contract developers actively working and contributing to the ecosystem

Value Proposition to EPNS
Investing in Web3bridge will help increase the visibility of EPNS among developers and non-developers in Africa.
Investing in Web3bridge guarantees increased development activities on the push protocol by individuals building their project or those participating in hackathons, as this investment allows the EPNS team to have timely and planned workshops with developers in training and alumni of the Web3bridge program.

Funding Requested
58600 $Push

Milestones
The funding request will cover for cohort VIII of the program which is a 16 weeks tenure.

Hi @ebunayo ,
Thanks for PUSHing your Push Grant Proposal.

It’ll be wonderful if you could you can expand more on 2 areas:

  • The Value proposition for Push
  • The milestones.

As per the Value proposition
Could you add some numbers/metrics, and more details in general that helps the community get a quantifiable idea of the impact of this Grant.

  • How many developers will participate on this cohort?
  • Whats the cohort structure? At which point the students get to learn & code with Push?
  • What Push topics are going to be covered? Notifications, SNS, Chat, etc…

About the Milestones
The idea here is to very clearly define verifiable and quantifiable milestones that will help us track and confirm everything is going as planned with the Grant. Of course we understand plans change and milestones can change, however its important to ensure the end goals of the Grant remain on track.
Please provide a milestones breakdown that can be used for this purpose.

i.e.
Milestone 1 (ETA: end of week 4)

  • 100 developers finalizing the introductory course, covering whats Push, what are Push Notifications, creating their own channels in Staging, sending notifications from the frontend

Milestone 2 (ETA: end of week 8)

  • 50 developers submitting Github repos with working solutions sending notifications from backend.
  • Basic notifications in the 3 main flavors: broadcast, targetted, subset.

Milestone 3 (ETA: end of week 16)

  • 30 developers submitting Github repos with working solutions making more advanced use of Push
  • Including Push Chat, SNS, Subgraph implementations, etc.

Keep in mind milestones are used also like checkpoints where the team in charge of the Push Grants Program can discuss with you in case adjustments need to be made. Also installments are attached to the completion of the Milestones however this can be discussed to help get the project started.

Let me know in case you have any question.

@MrJaf thanks for the feedback

How many developers will participate in this cohort?

The cohort will have 55 Web3 developers and 70 Web2 developers

The PUSH workshops will be attended by the 55 participant of the Web3 class, 93 Web3 developers from cohort V to VII

What’s the cohort structure? At which point the students get to learn & code with Push?

PUSH will be introduced to the curriculum at week 10 & 11 of the cohort. Before this week the developers are fully taught the nitty gritty of smart contracts and are already writing contracts. Week 10 & 11 in the cohort covers advanced topics which include Ethereum Name Service, layer 2, decentralized storage.

What Push topics are going to be covered? Notifications, SNS, Chat, etc…

The topic and the workshop will cover the entire scope of the PUSH protocol

About the Milestones

Milestone 1 (Weekly)

Milestone 2 (ETA: end of week 11)

  • 40 developers submitting Github repos with working solutions sending notifications from the backend.
  • Basic notifications in the 3 main flavors: broadcast, targetted, subset.

Milestone 3 (ETA: end of week 14)

  • this activity will be incentivised with the best 4 submissions rewarded
  • 40 developers submitting Github repos with working solutions making more advanced use of Push
  • Including Push Chat, SNS, Subgraph implementations, etc.

Hi @ebunayo
Hope all is well. I had a few more questions for you.

  • When is this cohort starting?
  • Can you share some metrics and KPIs from previous cohorts?
  • Have you worked with other protocols/projects in the past in this fashion? If so, which?
  • Do you have conversion numbers regarding how many of the Program students become web3 developers working in the web3 space after the cohorts?

Also, while the idea is super clear → Educating developers in Africa and promote learning & using Push Protocol in their projects and jobs. Would be amazing if you can share more information about Web3Bridge with the community on our discord. And finally, how about joining us for Office hours and do some Q&A?

  • When is this cohort starting?
    January 9, 2023

  • Can you share some metrics and KPIs from previous cohorts?
7 cohorts, 617 Web3 developers trained, each cohort participants is expected to have minimum 15 contracts and 3 dapps before the cohort ends

  • Have you worked with other protocols/projects in the past in this fashion? If so, which?
    Yes. Polygon & Filecoin

  • Do you have conversion numbers regarding how many of the Program students become web3 developers working in the web3 space after the cohorts?
    107

Mind telling when is the open office hour?
